Privacy Statement
Last updated: April 13, 2026
Human is a non-profit project. We built Human to give people a quiet, personal space to document their lives — not to collect or monetise personal data. This privacy statement explains what data we collect, why, and what rights you have.
1. What we collect
We collect only the data necessary to provide the service:
- Account information — your name, email address, and password (stored securely hashed).
- Life events — the moments and periods you create, including dates, descriptions, categories, and any metadata you add.
- Social data — your social circles, connections, and sharing preferences.
- Technical data — IP address, browser type, and basic usage data needed to keep the service running and secure. We do not use third-party analytics or tracking tools.
2. How we use your data
Your data is used solely to provide and improve the Human service:
- To create and maintain your account.
- To store and display your life events according to your sharing preferences.
- To enable connections and social circle functionality.
- To send you essential service communications (e.g. password resets, security alerts).
- To diagnose technical issues and protect against abuse.
3. What we never do
- We never sell your personal data.
- We never show ads or share data with advertisers.
- We never track you across other websites.
- We never use your content to train algorithms, build profiles, or generate engagement metrics.
4. Who can see your data
You are in control of who sees your life events:
- Private events are visible only to you.
- Shared events are visible to the specific connections or social circles you choose.
- Human staff may access data only when necessary for technical support or legal obligations, and only with appropriate safeguards in place.
5. Data storage and security
Your data is stored on secure servers. We use encryption in transit (TLS) and follow industry-standard security practices to protect your information. Passwords are stored using one-way hashing and are never stored in plain text.
6. Cookies
We use only essential cookies required to keep you logged in and to protect against cross-site request forgery. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party cookies.
7. Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data at any time through your account.
- Correct your personal data through your account settings.
- Delete your account and all associated data. When you delete your account, all your data is permanently removed.
- Export your data in a portable format.
8. Children
Human is not intended for children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us so we can remove it.
9. Changes to this statement
We may update this privacy statement from time to time. When we do, we will update the "last updated" date above. For significant changes, we will notify you through the service.
10. Contact
